A change in opinion…

January 31, 2009

After seeing more movies, I’ve changed my opinion in some of the categories in the Oscars. For Best Picture, I’m rooting for “The Reader” to win. I still think “Slumdog Millionaire” won’t win it but I love it. It’s one of my favorites this season and given that, my opinion for it to win Best Director with Danny Boyle still stands. I still think Frank Langella should win Best Actor but I wouldn’t mind if Sean Penn won it. And if we set Heath aside, I would say Josh Brolin for Best Supporting Actor. I still think Kate should win Best Actress but I’d give it to Meryl as well. I’m actually rooting for Amy Adams now for Best Supporting Actress. She was quite amusing in “Doubt”. I still think “Frost/Nixon” should win Best Adapted Screenplay and would it be fair to root for “Milk” in Best Original Screenplay because it’s the only one I’ve seen? And instead of “O… Saya”, I think the movie should win with “Jai Ho” for Best Original Song but “Slumdog Millionaire” HAS to win Best Original Score. Seriously. I’m in love with the soundtrack. Well, that’s all really. The rest of the choices still stand.

Blah blah blah..

January 30, 2009

While waiting for Ragnarok to install, I might as well blog after like… a week? Anyway, last Wednesday was our Field Trip. Fun times. Although the trip itself was boring, you might as well enjoy it with friends. I sat with Sir Lee and Sir Dayag at the front of the bus because I had no actual Field Trip buddy. We watched three movies althroughout the duration of the trip. I was supposed to bring the digi-cam but it was unavailable so I had to bring the video cam which took crappy pictures, might I add! Didn’t get to camwhore as much as I wanted to. On the way to the sites, I sat with Sir Dayag but on the way home, I sat with Sir Lee (despite him complaining that we wouldn’t fit in the seat. Where’s your god now?!) But he was kinda tired from the trip so we just slept together. Actually, he spent his time in the bus sleeping (which I have documented) and watching the movies. Oh yeah. We watched The House Bunny (which I liked!), Wild Child (which I hated) and Picture This (which I was apathetic towards). Uh. Do I really need to say anymore details?

I’m bored out of my wits here, people. I’m waiting for a certain e-mail. So here are the nominees I’m rooting for in each category because I’ve actually seen some of them already.

Best Film
The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button – I was ready to accept the fact that the winner of the Golden Globe is not necessarily the Oscar winner. Besides, there was something about this movie the had that Academy Award appeal that Slumdog Millionaire didn’t have.

Director
Danny Boyle – Slumdog Millionaire – I would have went with David Fincher but I thought he did a better job with Fight Club. Slumdog Millionaire had great directing, though. It had a sort of “indie” vibe to it but still pretty epic to view India the way it was portrayed and you could sense the tension there.

Best Actor
Frank Langella – Frost/Nixon – He made a convincing Richard Nixon. I certainly liked his random thwarts of anger and his display of defeat in his interview with David Frost. You could have felt sympathy for Tricky Dick himself.

Best Supporting Actor
Heath Ledger – The Dark Knight – First of all, I was shocked at how Robert Downey Jr. was still nominated for an Oscar. Better him than Tom Cruise, I suppose. Kirk Lazarus wins at life. Anyway, Heath would probably get this one because of the “death card” but he’s got the acting skills to back it up! Still rooting for him, no matter what people say.

Best Actress
Kate Winslet – The Reader – What’s confusing is she’s considered a Supporting Actress in the Golden Globes but she’s considered a Lead Actress here in the Oscars. I myself have not seen The Reader (see how unfortunate I am?) but I am confident that she might finally snag this one. Plus, I saw the trailer anyway.

Best Supporting Actress
Taraji P. Henson – The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button – Okay, I honestly didn’t know much about Supporting Actresses that stood out this year. So I just drew randomly out of a hat (there was no hat no was there drawing involved) and picked Taraji. She played Benjamin’s mother and I thought she was okay.

Adapted Screenplay
Peter Morgan – Frost/Nixon – It’s the Frost/Nixon interviews that provided the essence of the movie and that in itself was rich enough. It may not be as eye-catching as other movies but it’s still excellent quality.

Original Screenplay
I haven’t seen any of these so I can’t judge! … Yes, I haven’t seen Wall-E, yet. THERE PROBLEMS?

Animated Feature
I’ve only seen Kung Fu Panda but it’s Pixar that usually wins this category anyway. (Geez, why don’t they just make an annual Pixar award, then?)

Art Direction
The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button – It was able to show the periods in time that Benjamin Button lived through.

Cinematography
Slumdog Millionaire – I thought the scenes were quite memorable and it was able to get into your mind.

Costume Design
The Duchess – I just have a feeling because when your costume is as fancy as the olden times then you’re bound to win this category.

Editing
Slumdog Millionaire – The formula was clear. Real-life scene, game show scene, flashback scene, back to real-life… It was quite fluid and at the same time, exciting.

Makeup
The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button – For the old age and stuff. Because really, the only real make-up in the Dark Knight was the Joker. And Twoface, I guess. But mostly Joker.

Original Score
A.R. Rahman – Slumdog Millionaire – I loved the music in this movie so much! It was so jumpy and vivid which kept me awake during the movie and it wasn’t annoying at all.

Original Song
‘O Saya’ – Slumdog Millionaire – This was the song they played in the beginning of the film and I liked it because it set the mood for the movie.

Sound Editing
The Dark Knight – What’s sound editing? And what makes it different from sound mixing?

Sound Mixing
The Dark Knight – Anyone wanna tell me what the difference is?

Visual Effects
Iron Man – It’s what superhero movies are known for. Besides, Tony Stark’s 3-D desktop thingy? Very. Awesome.

Yay! Batch unity FTW!

January 23, 2009

It was Intrams week for us and our batch was considered the overall champions so yay! A lot of the Pink Batch were really into the games and the ones at the Major Games (the actual sports-related ones), I’m sure they gave their all into the games. Unfortunately, we didn’t win much for Board Games and Fun Games. Does that make us the non-thinking batch? Not really. Sports require thinking as well as movement so kudos to the winners and the non-winners who really tried their best. It was quite admirable to see the batch united in cheering when our future as a batch in the school seemed so bleak during our First Year.

Teacher’s exhibition was fun, though! For the past two years, I haven’t been able to appreciate the faculty much but this year, I was able to actually cheer for a side. The Blue Team in basketball had all my favorite male teachers in it so it wasn’t much of a problem for me to pick a side in the first place. I didn’t feel torn at all! Kind of a realization on some parts, though.

- Sir Jomar and Sir Lee have proven that size doesn’t matter in basketball.
- Sir Resty’s jersey number rolls off the tongue.
- Sir Antiquera has shown that it’s okay to use your feet in volleyball.
- Sir Keens’s game-face is perfect for a plz icon on DA.
- Sir Jomar has officially been christened “Fomar.” (I want his NERD shirt, though.)
- Sir De Leon is so adorable!
- Sir Berns is so white and pink-ish.
- Coach Paul makes a big difference in basketball (he was on Blue), remains blank-faced and loved while doing so.
- There are no overtimes in teachers’ exhibitions. (They tied the game, amazingly.)
- It’s not the same without Sir X!

Today was also my sixteenth birthday! Not a lot of well-wishers. Actually, not a lot of people remembered on their own. I had to remind them and drop hints about it. Although my disappointment usually merits a bigger reaction from the opposite end so it’s good, it’s good. I got gifts! Just a few though. I got a sketch pad and inking pen from Cristine (OH JOY. ANOTHER SKETCH PAD. :D) and I got chocolates from Antonia (I actually dropped by her house for it because she was sick so she was absent from school.)

Oh crap. I’ve forgotten about the existence of homework. Cram cram cram. Ladidadida. (By the way, Kyo, the Blue song is officially stuck in my head!)

Yes, say it like they say it in Arrested Development.

Certain events have transpired in my life that have made me emotionally conflicted on my choices. Why does He-Man #1 have to be so unattainable and so… so… better than He-Man #2? Yet… Why does He-Man #2 still make me happy when He-Man #2 does NOTHING to make me happy? And why does He-Man #1 have to match almost everything on my dream guy list?! WHY GOD, WHY?!

And dammit, Internet! Why couldn’t you post a good copy of The Reader online?!

I’ve finally decided to update my blog! So here’s a quick update on me. I survived Fasting Week, I watched Slumdog Millionaire, I’ve been busy, I’ve officially become a sister-in-law (it still feels weird to say that), I’ve enjoyed 30 Rock and I have just finished my script for Social.

I’ve also put myself in an emotional predicament that I’ve learned to accept. The only problem is priority. Haha. Now you won’t know which ‘he’ I’m talking about! You’re just gonna have to guess who I’m referring to in my posts! :P Shall we call them He-Man #1 and He-Man #2? Yeah, I know what I just referenced so suck it, monkeys!

Anyway… I run a pretty loose schedule this week because of the intrams and next week is preparations for our field trip. Can’t wait! :D

I’m waiting for a Lady Gaga video to load as I type this.

Anyway… I watched the Curious Case of Benjamin Button today with Bianca at Trinoma. The movie was beautiful. <3 The reviews were true. It really gives you a better appreciation for life, you have the urge to live for the moment and you wish that you can turn back time backwards. The characters are all captivating (especially “Struck-By-Lightning” guy!) and the story was not complicated at all. It was really enjoyable, and quite funny. This is a film adaptation of a short story and it ran for three hours long. That’s my only complaint. I thought it dragged a bit. But hey, I imagined to stay up through all of it. (I’ve been trained to be patient with long movies.)

AND BIANCA IS ALSO THE BEST. For my birthday, I got an Al Pacino DVD Box Collection (including Scarface, Scent of a Woman, And Justice for All and Sea of Love) and a Silence of the Lambs DVD. Eat your heart out, Miss Kresta! Haha. Of course now… I am obliged to give her something of equal value. Dammit. I should totally do a Big Bang Theory and get Harrison Ford’s DNA. She’d love that.

BTDubs, my birthday = January 23.

Well, I don’t have a prom date, then. Figured if the one guy I wanted to be with didn’t really agree to being my date then I would just go stag. I don’t want to grab a random date for the sake of getting a date. A lot of people are getting desperate. Last minute soirees here and there. Good thing I don’t have to worry much about these things. Yeah, I am going to prom alone but at least my friends will be with me. So yes… Unless he changes his mind (which I doubt), I couldn’t imagine myself going with anyone else. I just couldn’t. :) I wouldn’t go as far as saying we’re perfect for each other. I KNOW we’re not. I KNOW we’ll never be together. There’s just so many flaws to list (one flaw involves the law)  but as the song goes, I’d rather have bad times with him than good times with someone else… HAHA. What is this cheesy crap I’m spewing? I’m fasting, dammit!

BTDubs, I’m representing my class in the Spelling Bee. *pumps fist into air*

Well, this is it. The final day of my Christmas vacation. I just fixed my bag upstairs awhile ago and it just sounds so sad to say that. I will miss all the free time I had. Free time that I didn’t spend so wisely, unfortunately. But then again… All those days of playing Red Alert 3 and watching movies… I think it was worth it. Which reminds me… I still have to watch one more movie that I borrowed from Miss Kresta. But I think I’ll pass. I read on IMDb that it was almost three hours long!

It’s also fasting week in our church but it doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll fast on food. You can fast on other things. Things that you can set aside so that you can have more time with God… and I choose to not talk to Sir Lee for a whole week! The only time I shall talk to him is through recitation in class and when I see him pass by in the hallway BY CHANCE, I will only greet him and then that’s it. Yep. I’m going to distance (and most importantly, restrain) myself for one week so I can reflect on things.

Two more days..

January 3, 2009

Right now, I’m adding more songs to my iPod. Used Guitar Hero for some ideas on what to download. Also downloaded some stuff that I have never gotten around to hearing like… Yes, I’ll admit it. The Beatles. Also Lady GaGa and Lily Allen. Oh God, why have I not heard Lady GaGa before?! I mean, I saw RM go crazy over her music and so I listened to her music and I loved it the first instant! I especially loved “Paparazzi” That’s my personal favorite from her for many other reasons. Haha.

Oh wow. Two more days. I’m surprised I actually remember how to keep track of the days. I’ve been so into the Christmas vacation that I forgot about all my other worries pre and post-Christmas. I re-watched my Arrested Development DVD since my sister and her fiance took the hard drive to a shop to add more movies. I originally wanted to watch The Matrix but there’s always tomorrow.

So uh. Yeah. Two days to go. *is psyched*
